Our Creative God

Last night we were in for a remarkable show…the Perseids Meteor Shower. After finding out about this, I read up on it, and learned that it would be especially beautiful this year, because of how the moon was positioned, causing especially dark skies. In other words, we were in for a treat! After being discouraged by rain and cloudy weather, Ryan and I set out to find us some meteors around 1:00 in the morning. We laid down on our driveway and started looking up! As our eyes adjusted to the darkness, we began to see stars and after about ten minutes…saw the first shooting star of the night! How magnificent it was! It happens so quickly. Nothing is happening, and then all of a sudden, you start freaking out, “OH MY GOODNESS THAT WAS ONE!” and it’s over. This was nothing like how the movies portray meteor showers…with shooting stars and comet like things zooming all over the sky. Nevertheless, as we watched for about 45 minutes, patiently waiting for patches of clear sky between the large clouds, we were treated to about 6 shooting stars. As I lay there, I couldn’t help but think about how beautiful this would be even further away from the city lights, on the beach, on a mountain. I remembered sitting on a rooftop in the Dominican Republic with new friends and seeing my very first shooting star.

As we headed inside, I thought, wow, God, that was really a spectacular show. You are so creative. Then I looked up Psalm 19:1-4a, and feel asleep, looking forward to the next time I would be treated to such a show.

The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above[a] proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words,
whose voice is not heard.
Their voice[b] goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
